What if the other party does not agree?
Mediation is voluntary, so we cannot require someone to participate. Sometimes, however, a clear explanation from an independent person helps them understand what is being offered and feel more comfortable considering it.
The consultation fee covers the service provided, including the consultation, agreed contact attempts and written confirmation. It does not depend on the other party agreeing to mediate.
Is this a mediation session?
The consultation is a preliminary step. It helps you explore the process and establish whether mediation can move forward. It does not include a joint mediation session or legal advice.
Our written confirmation records the steps taken and the response received. It is not a court certificate or a legal assessment of either party’s position.
Take the first step
You do not need to know exactly how to proceed. Tell us briefly what has happened, and we will help you understand whether this service could be useful.
You may be considering mediation but feel unsure how it works, whether it could help, or how to approach the other person. Our Pre-Mediation Consultation gives you an opportunity to explain the situation, ask questions and explore a practical way forward.
We can also contact the other party to explain mediation and establish whether they are willing to take part. You do not need to have their agreement before making an enquiry.
From £125 for a dispute involving two parties.
What does the service include?
We help you understand the process and take the first steps towards arranging mediation. The service includes:
-
A consultation to discuss the dispute, your concerns and what you hope to achieve.
-
An explanation of how mediation works, including what participation involves.
-
An initial assessment of whether mediation may be suitable.
-
Contact with the other party to explain the process and invite their participation.
-
Written confirmation of the steps taken and whether the other party has agreed to proceed.
We will agree the approach with you before contacting anyone. Depending on the circumstances and the contact details available, this may involve email, a letter or a telephone call.
Who can use this service?
The service is available to individuals, businesses and organisations considering mediation for matters such as:
-
Unpaid invoices, debts and other money disputes.
-
Business, contract and customer disagreements.
-
Workplace conflict and difficulties between colleagues.
-
Property, boundary and neighbour disputes.
-
Community and organisational disagreements.
Family mediation matters follow a separate process. Please contact us about the appropriate service.
How it works
1. Tell us a little about the situation
Complete our enquiry form with a brief outline of the dispute and who is involved. You do not need to prepare a detailed account or send extensive documents at this stage.
2. We speak with you and confirm the fee
We will discuss what you need, explain the service and confirm the cost before issuing an invoice. Fees start from £125 for a two-party matter. Additional fees may apply where several people or organisations are involved.
3. We arrange your consultation and approach the other party
Once payment has been received, we will arrange your consultation and agree the next steps, including how we will invite the other party to consider mediation.
4. We confirm the outcome
If everyone wishes to proceed and mediation appears suitable, we will explain the arrangements and provide a separate quotation for the mediation itself. If the other party declines or does not respond, we will confirm that position and the contact attempts made.
